I pick up my new TC33D next week. I have about 3 acres of nice grass and 5 acres of brush to keep down 5 times a year. Any suggestions on using a Midmount mower or a 3pt finish mower for the 3 acres? Which is more advantageous? How about brand names of good BrushHogs for the 5 acres?

BushHog, Howse, and Leinbach are three that I've tried out. Bought the Howse new at an equipment auction. Saved $150 on a 60" mower. Don't use a finish mower on the pasture because the ground is too rough. ....

I would choose a JD272 Grooming mower over anything for large open areas. It gives you the stripes and a very level cut - no scalping. I can't stand my 60" on my Boomer. It, of course is better for getting close to obstacles but is not even close - in terms of cut quality to the grooming mower I speak of. The 3 pt is easy to get off and on too. Here is the decision for me: Sacrifice the better, wider cut for agility and go with a rear discharge MMM with a 60" unit. It is true that a 72" MMM may be better for you. What I am saying is that even though the MMM is not as good at cutting - go with it anyhow so you can use your SuperSteer and get more agility. Better yet - buy both!

Just my opinion - but I even make sure the deck is clean - the blades are sharp - the mower is balanced, level, etc.. I still can't compete with the grooming mower (others call it a finishing mower). ....

I have a TC33D with a 72 rear discharge mower and it works very good. The rear discharge seems to take a bit more power to run that a side but does great on the pasture. ....
